MEDIA RELEASE from the GEELONG SWIMMING CLUB
VICTORIAN COUNTRY CHAMPIONSHIPS
The Geelong Swimming Club had a very successful long weekend in Victorian Country Swimming Championships in Sale.
The club finished second in the overall aggregate behind Traralgon . Nearly fifty swimmers represented club over the three days of competition in securing 11 Gold , 6 silver and 14 bronze medals and numerous fourth places. The competition is very demanding as swimmers compete in both their own age group and the open section as individuals and in relays.
Gold medalists included: Trent Richards (Men 14-15 years 100m Breastroke), Daniel Bell (50m Butterfly),), Stephanie Taylor( Women 16-17 Years 100m Backstroke and 100m Freestyle), Ayla Pearson (Women 13 Years 100m Breaststroke), Harry Kershaw (Men 12 years 100m Butterfly), Olivia Dalton (Women 16-17 years 200 Individual Medley). Men 12 years Freestyle relay & Men 12 & U Medley Relay (Fraser Mahoney, Cameron Drake, Harry Kershaw, Luke Rush and Sean Beattie), Men16 & Under Freestyle Relay & Men 16 & U Medley Relay (Tyler Parkinson, Andrew McColl, Brock Norwood and Jack Kershaw.
Minor medalists were: Andrew McColl, Millie Nelis, Isobel Lambden, Tyler Parkinson, Olivia Dalton, Cameron Drake, Brock Norwood, Phoeb Mitchell and Harry Kershaw.
Despite the heavy workload many of the swimmers swam personal best times.
Brock Norwood received the ASCTA VIC Country Achievers Award for his commitment to swimming and his performance at the Championships.
The next major competition is the Victorian Sprint Championships in mid February.
