Locals in the deep end of the swimming pool

GEELONG Swimming Club members returned from the Victorian Country Championships with a swag of gold and a host of personal bests.
The team won six gold, six silver and four bronze in the championships at Hamilton, plus about 50 pbs.
Coach John Beckworth was happy with the performances of the medallists but took most pleasure from the personal bests.
"The most pleasing part of the swimmers performance was the dramatic improvement of many of the swimmers," he said. Olivia Dalton won three gold medals in the girls' 16-17 100 freestyle and the 100 and 200 breaststroke and a silver medal in the girls' 16-17 200 freestyle.
Stephanie Taylor won two gold medals in the girls' 14-15 100 backstroke and the female open 100 individual medley, and silver medals in the girls' 14-15 100 freestyle and the 200 individual medley.
Despite being underdone for this meet she also backed with a bronze medal in girls' 14-15 butterfly.
Phoebe Steinfort won gold medal in the girls' 16-17 200 freestyle, a silver in the 100 freestyle and a .bronze in the 100 butterfly.
Other swimmers to win medals include Laura Stekelenburg, one silver, Trent Richards, one silver, Mitchell Norton, one silver and Stephen Lowenthal, two bronze.
