Swimmers Top Their Best...
Swimmers from the Geelong Swimming Club competing at the recent Victorian
State Age Short Course Championships have achieved what is believed to be a
club first. All of the 21 swimmers representing the club at this meet recorded
personal best times, which was held over two weekends and included swimmers
from clubs around Victoria and interstate.
Highlights of the meet for the club included 2 silver medals to Olivia Dalton in
the 16 years 100mt and 200mt Breaststroke and Stephanie Taylor who won
silver medals also in the 15 years 100mt backstroke and the 100mt IM.
Other GSC swimmers to do well were 11 year old Mitchell Norton who shaved over
8 seconds off his 200mt freestyle time and Isobel Lambden who took 8 seconds
off her 200mt backstroke personal best time. Heath Kean, Jack Kershaw,
Brittany Phillips and Trent Richards all produced Personal Best times of 4
seconds or greater as well.
“To have 21 swimmers from the club qualify to swim at this event and produce
so many PB’s was very pleasing as some of the times produced beat previous
PB’s obtained at the Victorian Country Short Course competition which was
held only a month ago in Hamilton ” Club Head Coach John Beckworth said.
“Our swimmers have been working really hard with all our coaching staff over the winter training program so it’s great to see them being rewarded with excellent times in the pool when they compete” he said.
The club will now focus on the upcoming long course season, which includes targeted events such as the Telopea swim meet at the AIS in Canberra and the 25th Annual Geelong Open at Kardinia Pool in November.
