Becoming a Member

By becoming a member of the Geelong Swimming Club, each person receives access to:

  • Registration with Swimming Victoria.
  • Eligibility to swim at Club Nights throughout the season
  • Social events.
  • Annual Presentation Night
  • Being a part of a highly motivated, positive and fun-loving swimmers.

Each season, members formally register with the Clu bwhich is done through the Swimming Victoria Website. Members will be given notification of their registration number in due course.

Why should all parents involved with the Club be registered with Swimming Victoria:

It is important for all people who act a Club Officials to realize that public liability insurance held by Swimming Victoria covers fully all those people who are registered with Swimming Victoria (with the exception of defamation suits). A non-swimmer’s membership fee has been introduced by Swimming Victoria which make joining more affordable.

A situation could arise where a swimmer or parent makes a claim for damages against an official based on alleged negligence. Swimming Victoria insurance offers full protection to those who are registered with it, and tend to indemnify the volunteer.

A Sports Injury policy, which covers participants throughout Australia and the world has been added to the Swimming Victoria Insurance Policy.

People who act as officials, even if it only be a Club nights or training, are in a position always when something unexpected may happen to give rise to claims. All parents who act on Club Committees or Club Sub-committees must be registered with Swimming Victoria every year. A strong recommendation is made to all parents, whether officially on Club Committees or not, to become registered members of Swimming Victoria. The relatively small cost may one day prove to be the best investment you ever made.
