Our Squads

National Squad

Coach: Aaron Tenabel

Recommended sessions: 8+ sessions per week plus gym/dryland

Purpose: This squad is a performance-oriented squad for swimmers generally aged 14+ with ambition towards making finals and/or winning medals at National Championships.

Training is centred around increasing stroke specific training load, refining technique and executing established race modelling. State Open Qualified level swimmers are eligible to apply for participation in this squad. 

National Prep Squad

Coach: Andy Warren

Recommended sessions: 7+ sessions per week plus gym/dryland

Purpose: This squad is a competitive squad for swimmers generally aged 13+ who are looking to qualify for National Age Championships The focus is on all 4 strokes, race specific training and the development of positive and sustainable competitive swimming routines.

State Prep Squad

Coach: Rob Steinman

Recommended sessions: 5 sessions per week (6 sessions available)

Purpose: This squad is a competitive squad for swimmers generally aged 11-13 who are looking to compete and make finals at State Age Championships. The focus is on all four strokes, race specific training and the development of positive and sustainable competitive swimming routines.

Open Water Squad

Coach: Mark Cooper & Nathan Bury

Recommended sessions: 4 per week

Purpose: his squad is for Swimmers who compete in open water events at a State or National level in competitions such as the 5km Open Water, Surf Life Saving, Triathlons and Water Polo. Developing freestyle speed, endurance and technique is the main focus of this group.

Country Squad

Coach: Mark Cooper

Recommended sessions: 4 per week (5 available)

Purpose: This squad is a competitive squad for 12 & over swimmers with country championship qualifying times. The focus is on individual medley swimming, racing tactics, technique and skills.

Development Squads

Coach: Andy Warren & Nathan Bury

Recommended sessions: 3 per week (4 available)

Purpose: Our development squad reinforces the fundamentals of our junior development squad and is designed for swimmers aged 10-12. In this squad we encourage the swimmers to train and race longer distances in all four strokes whilst emphasis is placed on developing habits that will continue throughout their swimming journey.

Junior Development Squad

Coach: Max Piroch

Recommended sessions: 2 per week (3 available)

Purpose: This is our entry level squad where swimmers learn the fundamentals of competitive swimming and is designed for swimmers aged 8-10. We focus on all strokes, race skills, increasing distance and learning about training ethics. The aim of this squad is to get kids excited about competing in the sport of swimming.

Fitness Squad

Coach: Learn to Swim Teachers

Recommended sessions: 2 sessions per week available (no minimum session requirement)

Purpose: Our Fitness Squad is designed for those swimmers who wish to pursue their love of swimming by developing their technique and fitness but not necessarily for competition. Although competitions for this squad are optional participants will still be given the opportunity and encouraged to put their racing skills to the test.

Transition Squad

Coach: Learn to Swim Teachers

Recommended sessions: 1 squad plus 1 learn to swim lesson

Purpose: This squad is for those swimmers in our LTS program who are thinking about taking their swimming further, whilst still learning fundamental stroke techniques. The two main focus areas of this squad are increasing swimming time and distance. We will be introducing the fundamental racing skills of starts, turns and finishes at this initial level.
