The Geelong Swimming Club Structure is determined by a set of qualifying times, training standards and commitment to training. Each squad has training, racing and and qualifying times that each swimmer must meet in order to train with the squad. Please see below for more information on each squad.

National Squad – John Beckworth

The National Squad is our high performance squad with swimmers setting goals to qualify for the Australian Age Championships and the Australian Swimming Championships. Many swimmers also compete in National and State Surf Lifesaving Championships. Swimmers in this squad focus on race skills, race plans and understand the requirements of elite training.

National Squad swimmers train a minimum of 5 sessions per week during short course season, and 6 sessions per week in our long course season, with an additional 2-3 gym sessions per week.

State Squad – Lucky Weerakkody

State Squad swimmers have the goal of reaching Victorian Age Championships. This squad focuses on the fine tuning of technique, increase aerobic capacity and understanding race plans. State Squad swimmers are welcomed to a more elite training program both in and out of the pool.

State Squad swimmers train a minimum of 5 sessions per week year round with an additional 1-2 gym sessions per week.

County Squad – Sadat Hussain

Country Squad is our first squad aiming to reach qualifying times. This squad is for intermediate swimmers wanting to make the Victorian Country Championships. This squad begins to introduce training principles and an increased commitment helps swimmers understand the commitment required to succeed in the sport.

Country Squad swimmers train a minimum of 4 sessions per week year round with optional additional gym sessions.

Green T’s – Zachary Hussain and Emma Hocking

Green T’s Squad swimmers have mastered the basics of competitive swimming and increase their competition participation, but are not yet at the Country level. This squad focuses on technique and race skills.

Our Green T’s swimmers train a minimum of 3 sessions per week year round.

Blue G’s – Lucky Weerakkody and Emma Hocking

The Blue G’s is an introductory squad for those graduating from learn to swim, who would like to begin competitive swimming. This squad focuses on the fundamentals technique development and racing skills that will be utilised throughout their swimming journey. Swimmers will also be introduced to competitions.

Our Blue G’s Squad swimmers train a minimum of 2 sessions per week year round.

Development Squad – Lucky Weerakkody

The Development Squad is a bridging squad between high level Learn to Swim swimmers and our competition squads. Here, Lucky focuses on competitive stroke technique and introduces the basics of competition swimming. There is no competition requirement for this squad.

The Development Squad runs at Leisurelink on Sunday afternoons.
