Our very own Phoebe Mitchell is a finalist in the Viva Energy Geelong Refinery Club Legend Award!!

Since joining the Geelong Swimming Club (GSC) in 2003, Phoebe has made a profound impact on both the swimming community and the wider community by becoming a representative for swimmers with disabilities and able-bodied participants alike. Phoebe is described by the club as a trailblazer who makes parents and swimmers always feel welcomed and included in all aspects of the club.

Phoebe has reached the highest level as a swimmer with Down Syndrome. She is currently a member of six swimming associations and has achieved multiple awards for her talent and efforts, including World Champion in 2010, 2012 and 2014, as well as representing GSC in multiple State Championships

Phoebe’s contributions to the Geelong Swimming Club has resulted in the following:

  • Becoming an unofficial ambassador for Multiclass swimming
  • Being named ‘Best Club Person’
  • Being the inspiration behind the club’s new charitable foundation, The Geelong Swimming Club Foundation

The club states that Phoebe’s career will only continue to prosper with her work and contributions in the future.

The finalist with the most votes will win the prestigious Club Legend People’s Choice Award 2019 and receive $2,500 for themselves and $2,500 for their club.
