This was no ordinary camp. The opening address made that clear from the outset:

"This isn't a participation camp. This is a preparation camp."

Followed by:

"Missing a time isn't failure. It's information."

From 7–18 April, GSC athletes immersed themselves in 11 days of intensive development, completing 22 sessions across the pool, gym, recovery environments and team activities.

Created by Coach Mark Cooper (Coach Coop) and supported by Coach Will, this incredible opportunity - the inaugural NextGen Camp - brought together swimmers from our National Squads, State Gold and State Squads.

While our National athletes used the camp as part of their preparation for the Australian Championships on the Gold Coast, our other members were there for the entire experience.

Using Nationals as the inspiration, the camp was designed to accelerate the development of the next generation of GSC athletes as they build towards the 2026/27 season.

Three key focus areas guided every session: Skill, Race Skills, Ownership

Throughout the camp, swimmers were challenged both in and out of the pool through a comprehensive program covering:

  • Technical Development including underwater filming, with group and individual review sessions

  • Physical Development across circuit training, gym sessions, band work and core strength and mobility work

  • Mindset & Culture Sessions which included reflection journaling, group and individual challenges, framing of long-term developmen

  • Guest Expert Sessions such as Josh from ARK focusing on Recovery, Bec Stone presenting on Nutrition and Josh and James from Grand Slam Physio

  • Race Prep and Competitive Elements such as timed swims, skins event, and mini-meets

  • Team Culture Activities involving challenges and activities for building group awareness and handling pressure.

It was intense, but it was fun! We can't wait to see how our athletes take what they have learnt and continue to build on it into the coming season and beyond.

The lessons learned over those 11 days will continue to influence our athletes long after the final session, helping shape both their performances and their approach to training in the seasons ahead.

A massive thank you to our coaches, athletes and parents for making the camp such a success.

Get excited, GSC's Next Gen Camp will be back in 2027!
